There were no available evenings in November. I have very few in December, too; putting Portsmouth FC playing home into the equation, too, with their bringing traffic chaos to the island, makes it even less likely to find a free slot.
Here are the planned dates from French and German. For Italian, I can only offer the joint group event at the end of December - I hope to make it possible to do something for Italian in January.

As there is much confusion about Omicron there are no meetings in January.
I have posted on Facebook to seek opinion. There was little response from the German group and not much from the Italian group. The French group was a bit more responsive.
French will begin with a get together in February Half Term to see how it goes.
German and Italian will begin again in April as there are no Adult Education classes then.
For weekend gatherings I will try out a new venue a newly opened Café in Southsea. If successful then we will switch to that café for weekday, daytime meet-ups.

Hoping that unlike our friends in Austria, we do not go back into lockdown, I have made a few tentative plans for December. If you have been before you most likely have some way of contacting me to check.
Online socials were a great way of meeting up with everyone in our twin cities of Caen and Duisburg and could even be a good way of reaching out to and meeting people in other cities we have links to, including the three Portsmouths in the USA and the others particularly of course in the social designed for those in Caen and Duisburg to practise their English (and all English speakers can come on as no foreign is required!)

For the pub meetings I aim to be there from 7pm, if no-one has said they are coming from the Facebook groups the event may be cancelled, check to avoid disappointment. Attempting to avoid Portsmouth FC playing at home which causes traffic chaos in the city on Saturday afternoons (and Tuesday evenings!) I will add a few daytime Saturday meet-ups at the pub too - These will be from 2pm until about 5pm. So if you see a Saturday meeting it is for 2pm not 7pm!
Parking in streets near the pub is limited to 3 hours, unless you park in bays with parking meters. Those are free from 6pm to 8am.
During the City of Portsmouth College Term Time, I work on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings so the meetings will need to be on Wednesday evenings.

We moved from just online to some in person meetings in the pub. I aim to continue online and in pub for a while. Particularly as online allows people in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland etc to take part too... However, if there is no interest from others, then there will no point in continuing those!

As of April 17th online events have been planned until July 4th. I hope to hold an in person event at Portsmouth Point on July 14th for all those in Portsmouth across all groups. Although judging by the doubt over further restrictions being lifted on June 21st, this may now not be possible! (June 13th 2021)
Depending on circumstances we may sill arrange English online events for those in France and Germany. French and German online events will also be organised if there is interest.
I hope to be able to return to organising real world meetings from mid July, but who knows what the future holds there?

Portsmouth is now back in lockdown. All pubs, cafés and restaurants must close. Even when we were under tier 2 we could not meet up with people outside of our household in them, so online it is!

July and August 2020
I put the meetings on hold in July and August as the UK was slowly coming out of lockdown. We still cannot meet up inside buildings in groups of more than 6. We would need to reserve tables and have exact numbers etc. So, for the time being I will still stick to online meetings
I have organised one for August on Thursday, August 20th at 19:00 in the UK and 20:00 in CET Time Zone.
The link (below) will take you there. It works best in Google Chrome... You should not need to put in a Facebook account and password to access it, but if you are logged into Facebook it should work simply for you.

These are the planned events for June. The link next to each appointment time is the link you should click to join the meeting.
I am switching to using Facebook Video Chat Rooms for the socials, as much is organised on Facebook already. For those who do not do Facebook then you will need to add these times to your diaries if you want to take part and make sure you know where to find the links.
In order to access this room, outside of Facebook Messenger it seems you need to use the Google Chrome Browser, which is free to download and available on virtually all formats of machines out there. Chrome for Mac << From that link scroll to the bottom and click on other platforms to find Chrome For Windows; Chrome for iPhone/iPad(iOS); Chrome for Android; Chrome for Linux etc. If you are on a Chromebook then you have it!
(scroll to the bottom to see what you should see in Chrome if you are NOT using Facebook... This was done on an iMac which was built in 2007. I had moved rooms to become 'Alfonso' on the older iMac to test how all this works.)
From what I can gather unless I close the room as I leave the room remains available, but can only be accessed by others if I am in it.
03.06.2020 This was not the case for the English room as I had programmed in a date and a time. Once the date passed the link expired. The French, German and Italian links had no date and time and the new English one doesn't either.

It seems that using Facebook Messenger Rooms will work much like Google Hangouts, but will be free for up to 50 connections. You do not need a Facebook Account to take part.
If you click on one of the links above using Google Chrome Web Browser, which this screenshot shows happening on an iMac from 2007. You will need to enter your name in the box (I put in Alfonso)
Here you can see the room (just two participants, my main computer with an empty chair) and me playing Alfonso in another room on another machine! You would appear down there in the bottom left-hand corner. Others will appear on the screen in smaller boxes as they join.
It costs nothing to try it out, provided you have a device which can connect to the internet (if you are reading this you do!) you need the free web browser known as Google Chrome. See the link at the top. You need a microphone and a camera and you may well need to give permission to Chrome to use the microphone and web browser. Why not give it a go?

Having played with the Facebook System with a few others from various groups, I have learned the following...
...If you do have Facebook and click on the link it is likely to ask you to login using your Facebook Account and Password…
You do not need to use your Facebook Login and password. In order to get into the chat room, you will just need to copy the link and paste it into the address bar of GOOGLE CHROME browser which is a browser that will work on virtually all machines that can connect to the internet.
It is also possible to use the Facebook Messenger app. I have this on my iMac, iPad, iPhone, Android Phone and Fire 7. If you have not already signed in to the Facebook Messenger app then you might find it difficult to do remember your password so it is worth trying this in advance.
However, you do only need to use GOOGLE CHROME and then there is no need for user name or password. This seems to work on some quite old computers. One person was using Windows 7 another was on a iMac computer from 2007 using Google Chrome. You just need to type in your name and click on the join as guest blue button.
I had set up the English Chat room first and in doing so I had put in a date and time. This date and time has now passed so all English chat room links will now have to be https://msngr.com/4qxor6zP_CQitSF9 From what I can gather this link should remain available until I shut the room down. I have not put in a date or time for this room, nor did I for the French, German or Italian link…
I have changed the link for the remaining English chat rooms and they will work much as in the image here (or below in Comments). You cannot join the room until I am in the room.
Once I am in the room it will change to allow you in. I will usually be in the room a few minutes before the actual start time.
This images above are screenshots taken from an iMac computer built in 2007 using whatever version of Google Chrome it is running and its internal microphone and camera. It was able to successfully connect and it could be both seen and heard. Other participants were able to use their PCs etc which had previously not been willing to run the Google Hangout system.
Why not give it a go? if you get to a window like the one above then at the given dates and times, you should be able to join in. It is a bit of time socialising with others, which is not so easy to do at the moment…
