For anyone in any of the groups I lead, there will be the usual Twixmas Event.
This time it is at Reggie's Cocktail bar & kitchen. The new name for the pub formerly known as The Fleet near the Guildhall.

There will be a visit from Caen on Saturday, 6th December. So , this Saturday is full. The following Saturday (December 13th) has football. Then it just a few days before or after Christmas so no Saturday afternoon meet-up in December...
Saturday, December 6th - Soirée avec des Caennais - 7:30 pm - The Sovereigns, Kingston Crescent (near the ferry terminal).
We will be having dinner and drinks at the Sovereigns pub from 7:30 pm that evening.
If you would like to come, do let me know. I have booked a space for 50, but there is likely to be that many coming from Caen, so if there are significant numbers of us added I will need to reserve more space.
The main part of the day will be spent in three seperate groups sightseeing, having lunch, and shopping, setting up twinning links through sailing and visiting Arundel on the train...
We will come back to have a short stop at the Sovereigns Pub for dinner before they leave for the ferry at around half-nine/ ten pm.
You can come along just for drinks, or if you're willing to wait, you can order from the pub's standard menu. I will book an area with the pub, so if you are coming, please let me know (a previous year, people came unannounced and we had little room!) ) would advise eating before you come as they will largely need to be eating and the pub's waiting times can be long when there is such a large group in.

This is to inform you all of the arrangements for the upcoming Great South Run and a visit from Caen and Caen’s German twin city of Würzburg.
The dates are Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October.
There will be a dozen French and about 7 German runners taking part.
We are arranging a Pasta Party for them at Portsmouth Guildhall the night before.
People are welcome to come along for a contribution of £10 to cover the food and at least one drink.
If you would like to come you would need to pay the £10 to the Caen-Portsmouth Friendship Committee (this is too long for most bank apps so it usually says it is a near match and stops at ‘Co’.

Arrival would need to be at 18:30 on the Saturday at the Guildhall, due to there being another event taking place.
We are up on Level 2A in the Lord Mayor’s Banqueting Suite. The Lord Mayor is likely to at least drop in during the event.
It is usually a lively event and for those who speak French or German a chance to give that a go with our visitors and make some connections across the sea.
I have also booked us an area on the Sunday from 4 pm until the French leave for their car-ferry around 9 pm at the Brewhouse and Kitchen on Southsea Terrace (NOT the Guildhall Walk one).
This is much more open, people can just come along and have a drink or if they want buy some food from the pub. This is just so there is place to gather for the French while they wait for the return ferry check-in time.
Again, do let me know if you want to come along so I have an idea of how many people will be around at any given time.

My Saturdays are busy in October, or there is football. On the 18th and 19th, there is the Great South Run, and we will again have runners from Caen and their twin city of Würzburg.
So, there will be a Pasta party on the Saturday evening. You will be able to attend, but unless you are hosting a runner, there will be a cost for the food and drink. I will add the details when they are certain.
On the Sunday afternoon after the run, the runners will gather in a pub and remain there until about 9:30 pm. An ideal opportunity to come along and meet real French and German people...

There were no available evenings in November. I have very few in December, too; putting Portsmouth FC playing home into the equation, too, with their bringing traffic chaos to the island, makes it even less likely to find a free slot.

On Thursday March 31st the usual pub is most likely hosting a quiz night and I am no longer teaching as the classes are over until May. So I thought we could have a quiz night (normal pub quiz) to test the water.

As there is much confusion about Omicron there are no meetings in January.
I have posted on Facebook to seek opinion. There was little response from the German group and not much from the Italian group. The French group was a bit more responsive.
French will begin with a get together in February Half Term to see how it goes.
German and Italian will begin again in April as there are no Adult Education classes then.
For weekend gatherings I will try out a new venue a newly opened Café in Southsea. If successful then we will switch to that café for weekday, daytime meet-ups.
