Any underlined text will take you to further information on the internet about the item named on the blog

It was first published on November 20th, 2020. It was substantially updated after the first presentation on December 3rd, 2020 and then again in March 2021.

Further websites were added on December 11th and two further pages were created one to collect together information about Duisburg ...

and one to collect together information about Caen. (These are both very much in their infancy)

Virtual Reality Project with the University of Rennes (Sciences Politiques) Caen Campus.

This document (below) has the sketch outline of the idea. This is just a starting point and where the ideas will feed into, with all interested parties supplying their own materials to be displayed on the eventual product.

Whatever becomes of the project, I intend to use all garnered information to create a hub for info on Portsmouth (this page), Caen (click here) and Duisburg (click here). It will be an ongoing project and no information sent will therefore be wasted.

News:

Thursday 3rd December at 2pm (3pm in Caen) there is an online presentation of the project.

Tuesday 8th December at 6:30pm (7:30pm in Caen) there is a repeat live online presentation of the project. Please try to attend if you possibly can.

Although not as easy as being able to ask questions directly. On December 8th before the live session, we made a Zoom recording (which has for some reason cut off part of the slideshow), however. the discourse can be heard and it gives more of an idea of what they want to achieve.

Their original script is below

For questions and ideas on the project please email: office@ajstarrtranslation.co.uk (Chair of the Portsmouth ECTC)

Kitty an alumnus of the University of Portsmouth after studying BA (Hons) Illustration, has created the most recent 'Made in Portsmouth' project during Lockdown in 2020. For this project, she created a handmade interactive map of Portsmouth. It contains a red lens which reveals various places and attractions around the city along with some information about them. >>> Click Here to see the map <<<

We Create Market Southsea (Portsmouth Creates)

This is a group of around 200 local artists and makers who come together to sell their products in this project. We could aim to feature them and their works on this project.

Solent Sky Services have once more provided a wonderful virtual tour by drone through the former Debenhams department store in Southsea. While the store awaits redevelopment into Handley's Corner with flats and retail space it is being used on some weekends as a space for local makers and creators to sell their goods and works.

Portsmouth Uni Students are at the start of a project to develop a virtual exchange with the following aims with our partners at UNICAEN:

  • Improve students’ ability to communicate, collaborate and establish relationships with members of other cultures.

  • Provide access to one another’s cultures in order to develop students’ awareness of the differences and similarities between them.

  • Explore the history of Franco-British relations, in order to develop students’ understanding of the relationships between our countries, and the contemporary issues we face.

  • Encourage students to consider what they can do to be a part of promoting cooperation in the future.
