Tips for tuning your ear to French

Listen to French Music.

Watch French TV series and films (or at least videos/news in French)

There is a lot of stuff online for learning the French language (not all of it, correct!)

You can find some resources online to help you study French by yourself on this Padlet here

Here is the direct link to France 2 Journal - it should be linked to the most recent 20:00 Journal!

France 24 - français

Find some Francophone music you like - there's an extraordinary amount out there, and all can be seen on YouTube whenever you like. I have written much more about French music here.

mercredi 1er avril - 19h00

You may have added the clothing and more description to part one of your writing for a speaking presentation.

You may have added a description of your home based on the book and even written about the ideal home you would love to have.

Today we can examine the formation of the future and conditional tenses. Then we will look at household chores, equipment and most likely administration of your daily routine in French. This will also be with a view to being able to present a different day in the past too and possibly a future day.

mercredi 11 mars - 19h00

You may have done a written presentation about your attire in different seasons based on the text we worked on last time. There are also further themes in this adapt this model.

These could be adapted to suit your situation.

Theme 1.

How do we form the perfect tense of verbs?

Past Participles and Auxiliary Verbs. What about reflexive verbs in this tense?

(Possibly the simple future)

Theme 2.

Talking about where you live and describing people in more detail.

From Conversations/Situations.

P 6 to 9.

If time - la maison idéale (conditional tense)

Homework:

You have a presentation about your family home, etc. on the document at the top to prepare. You can add more detailed descriptions about them in there along with clothing you and they might prefer to wear at certain times of the year and possibly think about, if money were no object, what you would do in the way of a place to live.

A video to remind you how to describe people.

mercredi 25 février - 19h00

You may have prepared a presentation about your family in French based on an excerpt from the text we looked at here>>> adapt this model.

From Conversations, Situations we will look at the theme of physical descriptions and clothing.

We also have an A2 Level (CEFR) text about favourite clothes in different seasons.

For grammar we should revise the formation of the Present Tense for regular verbs... How confident are you with irregular verbs?

  • How do you form the Present tense of '-er' verbs?

  • How do you form the Present tense of '-ir' verbs?

  • How do you form the Present tense of '-re' verbs?

Check the verb formation blog, for the formation of French verbs in the present tense.

Note the formation of some of the main irregular verbs, these must be learned there's no easy formula, although some do seem to have a pattern you may pick up over time.

To check verb conjugation - particularly while you are learning all those irregular verbs - this tool could be of use to you.

jeudi 12 février - 19h00

We agreed we would start with the book « Conversations, Situations » to see how you manage with conversational situations in French.

You could then use the theme from the book we have discussed to create a written document (in your own study time) of what you would say in these situations.

The first themes would be... (C/S pp 2-5).

Talking about yourself and family, where you are from and greeting people in an appropriate manner.
